During Design Uncensored this April, Stacy Garcia had an exciting time getting to learn a little bit more about Nicole White. Nicole is an award winning and nationally published interior designer, as well as the president and principal designer of Nicole White Designs Interiors.  Featuring guest appearances from Stacy and Nicole’s fur babies Penny and Kingston, these two powerhouse women talked design, trend, and the importance of knowing your worth. Read on for our top 3 takeaways!

FROM REPORTING THE NEWS, TO BEING THE NEWS.

Nicole’s gorgeous design and eye for color might make you think that interior design has been her path since day one, but she actually started out as a journalist. She began covering everything from “politics, celebrities, to murder and mayhem.” Designing her own home was a hobby of hers, and as friends saw her unmistakable talent, she would design their homes too. Eventually, Nicole was in high demand and she made the transition into designing full time.

CONFIDENCE IS KEY.

Nicole explains, “the moment I owned it, I saw my designs burst," meaning when she began to embrace her talent and natural skill, she was able to do her best work without fear she didn't belong. About 5 years ago, Nicole was commissioned for a project by a client who had done their research. Nicole and her unique aesthetic was what her client wanted, and was prepared to adequately compensate her for her time and style. Nicole describes that moment as when things clicked for her, that she was a real interior designer.

CREATIVITY MEETS CHARITY

This year, Nicole White and her team were chosen by The Boys & Girls Club to transform a luxury Manhattan home into an elegant exhibition of fine furnishings, art, and technology. Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club launched the Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Manhattan to raise critical funds for much needed after school and enrichment programs for New York City children. For more than four decades, the Show House has been a must-see event for thousands of design enthusiasts, renowned for sparking interior design trends throughout the world. Nicole made history, being one of four Black owned interior design firms chosen to design spaces. This is the first time a Black designer was featured since the showhouse launched. “We proved we have the talent,” Nicole explains.

We wrap up the episode by getting a little bit of intel on color trends. Nicole explains that she’s seeing “a lot of black, a lot of pink tones,” and that “green is really having a moment.”
