Hello, hello! We spent our Wednesday evening with Molly Kay Johns talking all things color, design and trend. We were excited to learn more about her interesting background and her experience being a Style Spotter at High Point Market this past June! Read on for our top takeaways from this episode.

1. UNEXPECTED PETS

Molly, a luxurious interior designer, shares that she has some surprising pets: Chickens. “It’s so funny, anybody that knows me knows that I’m not a farm girl,” she says. She explains that her family has some allergies, but her daughter really wanted pets. She started researching, and found chickens! “Since my husbands a builder, he pretty much built us the Taj Mahal of chicken coops,” Molly explains. “It’s the greatest thing ever, they stay outside and there’s no mess.”

2. HOME SWEET HOME

About 4 years ago, Molly moved into her dream home. This luxury interior designer and her builder husband (an HGTV show waiting to happen) finally got the opportunity to build the home they’d fantasized about. “We didn’t know if it would ever happen,” she shared. “In our previous home we’d lived in for over 17 years that we remodeled from the ground up, raised our family in, we thought we’d be there forever.” However, it was always their dream to build. They eventually found the perfect lot, and found their home, sweet home.

3. TRENDING: MIXED MATERIALS

At High Point Market this past June, Molly got the fun job of being a style spotter. "One of the trends I saw in June at market this year was multifaceted materials on furniture," she shares, "specifically leather and fabric." From sofas, pillows, even trays and mixing bowls, she saw this trend everywhere. As a designer, it's something she'd done previously with a few daring clients, but seeing these pieces trending was something Molly was excited about.
